EDF Trading has been an active participant in the international wholesale energy markets since 1999. It buys and sells electricity, emissions, natural gas, LNG, coal, freight, biomass, and oil.
EDF Trading is one of the largest electricity, gas, coal and freight traders in Europe and an active participant in the global market for LNG.
EDF Trading is a 100% owned subsidiary of EDF, Europe’s largest power utility and a group active in all areas of the energy sector including generation, transmission, distribution and supply.
EDF Trading is EDF’s exclusive interface to the wholesale energy markets. EDF Trading secures and optimises coal and freight supply for the EDF Group in France and the UK as well as for other European utilities through :
- 30 million tonnes of physical coal handled per year ;
- The ownership of three coal terminals in the Port of Amsterdam ;
- A fleet of 30 vessels and inland logistics business (rail and barge) .
EDF Trading was awarded International Coal Supplier of the Year in the 2006 McCloskey’s Coal UK awards.
EDF Trading provides Chubu Energy Trading with its trading, marketing and risk management expertise, analytical modeling and research tools. It gives advice and guidance on current and anticipated physical and paper coal and freight market conditions. EDF Trading also provides and supports a comprehensive electronic coal and freight transaction system with sophisticated risk management functions.
The Head of Trading at Chubu Energy Trading has been seconded from EDF Trading. Several other employees from EDF Trading’s commercial and support functions have also been seconded on a long-term basis.
